Shimon Peres’s son has said that a new innovation centre is “the realisation of my father’s dream,” ahead of its launch at the Peres Center in Jaffa this week.

The late Israeli president laid the foundation stone for the new tech hub two years ago and this week his son Chemi, who now chairs the Peres Center of Peace and Innovation, paid tribute to his father’s vision and to Israeli ingenuity.

The new four-floor building was described as “a home for Israeli innovation and an entrance gate to Israel for its visitors,” ahead of its inauguration on Thursday.

Attending the opening will by Chinese technology titan Jack Ma, who founded the internet giant Alibaba, plus China’s Vice-President Wang Qishan and a series of technology executives from the likes of Google, Facebook and eBay.

Chemi said: “The Israeli Innovation Center is the realisation of my father’s dream of showcasing, under one roof, the scientific and technological power of the State of Israel and its contribution to the advancement of a better world.”

He added that visiting industry executives could use the opportunity “to expand their cooperation with Israeli companies and entrepreneurs, thereby promoting science and economic development in Israel and around the world”.
