South Hampstead rabbi’s grandson identified as Jerusalem shooting victim
Eliyahu Kay, grandson of Senior Rabbi Shlomo Levin, died from his injuries following Sunday's terror attack
The victim of Sunday’s gun attack in Jerusalem’s Old City has been identified as the grandson of South Hampstead synagogue’s senior rabbi Shlomo Levin.
Eliyahu Kay, 26, sustained a head injury and later died in hospital after a member of Hamas opened fire on civilians near the Western Wall.
He had recently moved to Israel from South Africa. His funeral was due to take place in Jerusalem on Monday.
Four other people were injured in the attack by 42-year-old Fadi Abu Shkhaidem, from East Jerusalem, who was shot dead by security forces at the scene.
Congregants of South Hampstead synagogue were told on Sunday evening: “With deep shock and sadness we are sorry to inform you of the passing of Eli Kay hy”d, son of Devorah and Avi Kay, grandson of Rabbi Shlomo and Rebbetzen Lynndy.
“He was tragically killed this morning in a terror attack in Jerusalem.
“The funeral will be in Jerusalem tomorrow followed by shiva in Modi’n.”
