Sri Lanka attacks: Rabbi slams Tulip Siddiq’s Corbyn support after relative dies
Leading member of Berkshire Jewish community took to Twitter after Hampstead and Kilburn MP expressed solidarity with Sri Lanka victims.
An Orthodox rabbi has faced criticism for asking a Labour MP mourning a relative killed in the Sri Lanka blasts: “Doesn’t your leader support Islamists?”
Hampstead and Kilburn MP Tulip Siddiq expressed solidarity with Sri Lanka after 321 people were killed in the attacks, and revealed she lost a relative in the attacks.
“It’s all so devastating. Hope everyone is keeping safe,” she added.
To which, Rabbi Zvi Solomons of the Jewish Community of Berkshire replied: “So sorry to hear this Tulip. Doesn’t your leader support Islamists like this? Are you still supporting him?”
The tweet received some criticism online, with JLM vice-chair Mike Katz writing: “So not OK.”
Tweeting from his personal account, Siddiq’s senior parliamentary assistant Jay Stoll said: “Sometimes it’s tough being a Jew in the Labour Party, but sometimes it’s tougher to see how our ‘leaders’ are choosing to ‘lead’. How is this okay?”
When approached for comment, Solomons said: “My condolences are heartfelt. My feeling of our Jewish community’s betrayal by ‘moderate’ Labour MPs increases daily.
“The oxymoron of a moderate MP mourning her loss, whilst wearing the badge of a party that espouses organizations broadly sharing the killer’s ideology is too much to ignore.”
