Stamford Hill residential and respite home rated ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted

Bayis Sheli community home praised for 'exceptional' quality of care provided to children in 'warm and homely environment'

Bayis Sheli, a residential and respite home for disabled children and young adults in Stamford Hill, received an ‘Outstanding’ rating by Ofsted following its latest inspection.

The criteria assessed included overall experiences and progress of children and young people, how well they are helped and protected, and the effectiveness of leaders and managers.

Following the visit, Ofsted said: “The children’s home provides highly effective services that consistently exceed the standards of good. The actions of the children’s home contribute to significantly improved outcomes and positive experiences for children and young people who need help, protection and care.”

Reflecting on the staff’s continued efforts to enable the children to achieve their goals, the report references that “all children are making exceptional progress with their social skills and overall development. The report also draws attention to the collaborative and inclusive nature of the Home in commenting that “Children’s views and wishes are listened to on all aspects of their lives. Children are actively encouraged to be part of formulating their care plans and setting their goals and targets.”

The report also mentions the “warm and homely environment” and how “Staff clearly value the importance of an environment that is respectful and maintained to a very high standard, with the children at its heart.” Similarly, emphasis was placed on the “range of activities” that reflect the children’s “interests and widen their community involvement” and the Home’s “exceptional facilities, including hydrotherapy, a soft playroom, a sensory room, a music room and an adapted children’s kitchen.”

The ways in which staff have gone above and beyond to care for and support the children was repeatedly commended in the report – “children’s overall experiences are excellent, and they receive outstanding care from a dedicated and consistent staff team. Staff have a comprehensive understanding of children’s needs and communicate in the children’s preferred style.”

When it comes to safeguarding, Ofsted found that “The stable and consistent home environment, together with the warmth and confidence of the staff, makes the children feel safe and secure. Parents and social workers say that children feel safe and that the staff protect them.”, while “Staff have a clear and detailed understanding of the risks and vulnerabilities for each child.”

Feedback Ofsted received from professionals described “the quality of care provided to children as ‘exceptional’” and that “the support they provide is non-judgemental and supportive to children and their families.”

The registered manager was also praised for being dedicated, passionate and advocating endlessly to ensure that children lead positive and fulfilling lives”, while ensuring “staff morale is high.”
