Stone runs to Watford win

David Sheldon with an earlier win this season at the London Borough Challenge cup

David Stone continued his winning ways by claiming first place at the 1,500m race at the Watford Open.

Competing in all age groups, he finished in 4.36.44, nearly six seconds better than his personal best, and 9.9 seconds better than any other 1,500m he has run this season.

Running a good tactical race, he was in front for two laps, and although overtaken by an under 20 woman, who lead by 10m with someone else moving up on his shoulder, he saw off the challenge from third place, and with roughly 150m to go, found himself level with the leader before easing home to win by 12.5m.

His father Sheldon said: “Considering he was throwing up earlier in the day, feeling nauseous with general aches and pains, this was a really good performance. I did ask him if he didn’t want to run but he was so keen because it was a lovely evening and he really felt like a run (and didn’t look unwell to be honest).

“Hopefully next time he can get down to 4.30 and by end of season 4.25 or so. He was delighted to be back on track.”

David’s next meeting is an under 15 meeting next week.
