Students host exhibition on Britain and the Holocaust

Young educators have launched an exhibition about Britain and the Holocaust to mark the end of their three-year terms as Holocaust Educational Trust regional ambassadors.

The moving spectacle at the Wiener Library in central London features collections of photographs, posters, archive documents and survivor stories, exploring the UK public’s reaction to Nazi atrocities.

Also displayed are personal declarations from the young ambassadors explaining why they were inspired to support HET.

Many have no Jewish heritage but were moved by survivor testimonies and witnessing the concentration camps for themselves.

Exhibitor William Pinder, 21, student from Anglia Ruskin University, said: “We have all worked so hard on this, it is incredible to finally see it all come together. It’s been a team effort and we are massively proud.”

Survivors were among the guests. Zigi Shipper, 86, who was just 14 years old when he was sent to Auschwitz, said: “No one will ever know what this means to me. I have spent the last 30 years working with young people. They are unbelievable. There are so few of us left and there is little more we can do, so it is so important that these young people carry on the work for us.”
