Take a bow-wow, Ozzy! Dog alerts owner to bullets near playground

Inquisitive labrador collie sniffed out live ammunition near children's area in Edgwarebury Park on Saturday

The bullets were sniffed out by Ozzy

It was a case of ‘cometh the hour, cometh the canine’ this week, after Ozzy the Dog found live bullets near a children’s playground and alerted his owner.

Police were called shortly after 10am on Saturday morning after Ozzy found the ammunition during his morning walk around Edgwarebury Park. Following a 999 call from owner Keith Sanford, a crime scene was put in place around the location, ominously sited near a school playing area.

“Ozzy was happily sniffing around during his daily walk when his attention was suddenly drawn to three bullets lying on the ground,” said Sanford. “We immediately reported it to the police.”

The bullets turned out to be live ammo for a rifle and hand-gun. A police search of the Edgwarebury Lane area, completed around 2pm, found nothing further. A Met Police spokesman said enquiries were ongoing.

Meanwhile, Ozzy’s mum Bev described him as “beautiful and courageous” and said he had earned himself a treat for the find.
