Three thousands supporters have helped Kisharon raise £1.3 million in just 36 hours.

The special needs charity launched an ambitious appeal to raise a six-figure sum in just a day-and-a-half, but its chief executive was “overwhelmed” as more than 3,000 donors chipped in.

The ‘Carry On’ campaign, which is still accepting donations, seeks to replace funds the charity would have received during its annual dinner, which had to be cancelled due to Covid-19.

The money will be used to maintain its services, supporting young adults with learning difficulties, until the end of the year.

The charity faced an unprecedented £1m deficit due to lockdown restrictions.

Richard Franklin, chief executive, thanked supporters, saying: “I am astounded, overwhelmed and in awe of just how generous our community has been over two short days.”

Without exception, everyone engaged in such a positive way which has enabled the wonderful team I serve to have renewed hope for the first time in 8 long hard weeks where over 25 percent of our work force (including myself) were Covid symptomatic and self-isolated.”

“As a film buff, the last two days have been a Jewish version of It’s a Wonderful Life”

During the pandemic, many Jewish charities have been forced to find new ways of fundraising, as well as having to make cutbacks to ensure they can continue.

Amid uncertainty over its immediate access to government funding and new expenditures, the charity is appealing for continued support. To donate to Kisharon’s fundraiser, click here: www.kisharon.org.uk
