US comedian and actor Tim Allen has been condemned for comparing the experience of being a conservative in Hollywood to living in Germany in the 1930s.

Appearing on the Jimmy Kimmel Live TV show, Allen discussed his attendance at President Donald Trump’s inauguration, and said of Hollywood: “You’ve got to be real careful around here or you’ll get beat up.

“If you don’t believe what everybody believes, this is like Thirties Germany.”

The Anne Frank Centre for Mutual Respect called on the Toy Story star to “apologise to the Jewish people”.

The centre’s executive director Steven Goldstein told Allen: “No one in Hollywood today is subjecting you or anyone else to what the Nazis imposed on Jews in the 1930s.”
