Tracy-Ann Oberman: UK Jews caught in ‘pincer between far-right and hard left’
The former EastEnders actor argued the British Jewish community was facing a “critical moment”, caught in a “pincer movement between the far right and hard left”
Tracy-Ann Oberman warned of reaching “some sort of endgame in Europe again”, as she revealed the continent “frightens me”, writes Adam Decker.
Speaking to Jewish News during the annual No2H8 Awards, the former EastEnders actor argued the British Jewish community was facing a “critical moment”, caught in a “pincer movement between the far right and hard left.”
Oberman explained that being taken to Yad Vashem as a young girl was the “most defining moment of my life”, driving her determination to “stand up to bullying and racism, and not to go quietly”.
The star of Friday Night Dinner emphasised she was “not an activist or a politician”, having traditionally looked to the “grown-ups” to tackle racism and conspiracy theories on social media. It was her realisation that so few were speaking out that prompted her to intervene since she “couldn’t be quiet anymore.”
Earlier this year it was revealed that Tracey-Ann Oberman, along with Countdown presenter Rachel Riley, were preparing legal action against up to 70 individuals for tweets relating to their campaign against antisemitism in the Labour Party.
The former British Soap Awards winner argued that the Labour Party “has let us down so fundamentally through its lack of action and protection of racists and misogynists.”
