Tribe launches ‘most ambitious ever’ summer scheme after Israel tour cancelled

United Synagogue's youth wing will take 16-year-olds across England, Scotland and Wales for two weeks of sightseeing, water sports and exploring Jewish identity

The United Synagogue’s youth division is promising “the most ambitious ever” summer programme for teens across the UK after the cancellation of Israel tour for a second year.

16-year-olds will get the chance to travel the length and breadth of Britain, seeing its natural sites, historic towns and cities to learn about their Jewish history, and even doing water sports.

Participants in the Great British Tribe Tour 2021, launched by the United Synagogue’s youth wing, will be whisked off to locations across England, Scotland and Wales, including Loch Lomond and Edinburgh north of the border, Llandudno to the west, and Oxford, Bath and Cornwall in England.

The trip, which runs from 7-21 July, was launched in wake of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, which prevented the month-long Israel tour scheme, attended by more than 1,000 in pre-coronavirus times.

Anna Coleman, Tribe’s global events manager, said: “We are so excited to be launching The Great British Tribe Tour 2021. This is the most ambitious summer programme we’ve ever launched: visiting 20 towns and cities across 3 countries over 14 days as we travel from Scotland to Lands’ End taking in some fascinating places of Jewish history. With surfing, sightseeing and a High Tea fit for the Queen, there really is something for everyone.”

Tamara Jacobson, Tribe’s Head of Operations, said: “Given the pandemic, it is not currently clear that we can run Tribe Israel Tour this summer. It is so important for us to help connect our young people with Israel and we are working hard to get people to Israel as soon as it is permitted. In the meantime we are thrilled to be launching our fabulous new programme, The Great British Tribe Tour 2021. Join us on a journey like no other as you make new lifelong friends.”

The trip runs from 7-21 July 2021 and costs £1,499 for United Synagogue members and £1,599 for non-members. The United Synagogue Chesed bursary fund is also available to those needing financial assistance.
