Three injured in West Bank car attack before ‘terrorist’ shot

Two men were left seriously injured and one lightly injured after a man drove a car into three Israelis hitch-hiking near the West Bank settlement of Shiloh on Thursday.

Both men who were seriously injured sustained head and chest injuries on Route 60, with one being sedated before being airlifted to Hadassah Ein Kerem Medical Center near Jerusalem, while the other was taken by Magen David Adom ambulance to intensive care. A third man was lightly injured.

A military unit arrived at the scene and shot the driver of the overturned vehicle, who had been initially trapped inside. Paramedics later treated the man.

“A suspected attempt to run over pedestrians occurred a short while ago close to the Sinjil junction,” the IDF said in a statement. “As far as is known, three people were wounded. A force in the area opened fire on the vehicle and identified a hit.”

Prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu: “I would like to praise the action of the IDF soldiers who reacted quickly and neutralized the terrorist, and to wish a full recovery to the injured.

“I find it strange that those who hastened to condemn terrorism against Palestinians are silent when terrorism is directed against Jews.”

The incident was being treated as a terrorist attack, after an 18-month old Palestinian baby was burned to death six days ago by Jewish settlers.

Former foreign minister Avigdor Liberman praised the IDF for “responding correctly and shooting the terrorist,” before criticising the government for “not working in a determined way to fight terror and to stop it from happening”.
