Tzipi Hotovely won’t arrive as Israeli envoy to UK until after High Holy Days
Israeli Foreign Ministry spokesman says the former government minister, who was appointed to succeed Mark Regev in August, is likely to take up the job full time by mid-October
Israel’s designated new ambassador to the UK, Tzipi Hotovely, is now unlikely to arrive in London until after the High Holy Days, according to an Israeli Foreign Ministry spokesman.
Ms Hotovely’s appointment was approved by the Israeli government in August but now has to go through a standard bureaucratic process of ratification at the British end, which normally takes between six to eight weeks.
The spokesman, Lior Hayat, said that matters were proceeding normally and that Ms Hotovely had said she would arrive in London “after the chagim” — which is likely to mean after Succot in mid-October.
However, Ms Hotovely has made one virtual appearance in London already — at a memorial Zoom event on Sunday September 6 held by the London School of Jewish Studies. The event was held to mark 30 days since the death of Rabbi Adin Steinsaltz and Ms Hotovely, as one of his many former students, took part in order to pay tribute to him.
