The United Synagogue’s Chesed fundraising campaign surpassed its £500,000 target this week.

With £570,000 raised by more than 2,900 donors, it means thousands of people who are struggling, vulnerable or lonely will receive support this Pesach and throughout the coming year.

Earlier this week 30 US Chesed volunteers began packing Pesach food parcels for 800 families in need. The food parcels contain more than 20 different items including matzah, grape juice and fruit juice, cheese and tuna, tea and coffee, jam and butter, and some chocolate and biscuits.

In the past twelve months 6,962 food parcels were delivered to people in need and the money raised will enable the charity to run the services required in the coming year.

Michelle Minsky, head of Chesed at the United Synagogue, said: “We are immensely grateful and humbled that the community has stepped up once again to help us raise enough money to ensure that US Chesed can be there for every family that needs us – and to support our work beyond the Jewish community. One recipient of our food parcels rang us and asked if they could speak to the person who was keeping them alive. This is what motivates us to do more and makes our work so critical. Thank you again for your generous support.”
