Trump’s Middle East envoy has told Jewish leaders that Israel “has a tremendous friend in the White House.”

The US president’s top peace envoy Jason Greenblatt addressed Jewish leaders from over 80 countries in Ottawa this week at the World Jewish Congress’ annual conference.

“Our plan will not compromise on Israel’s security, that the way it is,” Greenblatt said on Wednesday.

“Israelis should look at it from the position that they have a tremendous friend in the White House […] This plan is coming from a close friend,” Greenblatt added.

The so-called “deal of the century ” has been at the centre of much speculation in the past year but the US has yet to reveal any details.

Greenblatt said the plan would be presented in weeks, likely after the festivals of Ramadan and Shavuot

“We hope for a comprehensive agreement, and if that can’t be achieved, then positive steps forward that would be helpful for both Palestinians and Israelis in the region would be helpful as well,” he said.
