VOICE OF THE JEWISH NEWS: Honouring Her Majesty

Voice of the Jewish News

The images of a seven-year-old Princess Elizabeth mimicking a Nazi style salute in 1933 refocused attention on long-standing questions about the links between other members of the Royal Family and the Third Reich.

..But it shouldn’t cast any shadow over the Queen’s efforts during the Second World War, her record of dedicated service or the wholly positive relationship between Her Majesty and Anglo-Jewry throughout her reign – which becomes the longest in British history in September.

Her Majesty led the celebrations for the Board of Deputies 250th anniversary and has been a patron of Holocaust Memorial Day since the outset.

More broadly, she has leant her name and clout to countless good causes, helped ensure the UK maintains its magnetic allure for visitors the world over and represented the UK’s interests abroad.

The Queen, who is 89, continues to maintain a busy diary in service of country and Commonwealth, including a poignant recent visit to Bergen Belsen.

We couldn’t let this moment pass without our own small bow to Her Majesty with our children’s art competition.

We look forward to receiving entries from many dozens of our younger readers – and to crowning the contest’s king or queen.
