Vote for your favourite designer doughnut NOW!

Jewish News has teamed up with the United Synagogue and Carmelli Bakery to find a delicious new flavour, after five finalists have been whittled down from more than 300 entries!

The best ideas from the Jewish News’ Design a Doughnut competition are being put to a public vote.

In partnership with the United Synagogue and Carmelli Bakery, we’ve been asking for delicious new doughnut flavours. This week we announce the top five of the more than 300 entries received.

Whisky fans might vote for Simon Wittenberg’s doughnut which will be filled with whisky cream and decorated with chocolate lines to look like a whisky cask. Cake aficionados will be inspired by Heather Marchant and Michelle Watson who thought of a black forest gateau-nut. Rebbetzen Blima Wollenberg of Woodford Forest United Synagogue opted for a nachos-style doughnut with a cheese sauce filling and tortilla chips on top. Jude Marks created an ‘apple crumnut’ with apple filling and a crumble on top. With a controversial entry, Daniel Elias chose a caramel and Marmite doughnut with chocolate drizzled on top.

The winning entry will be turned into a real doughnut by Carmelli’s and sold in the bakery over Chanukah, with a big box of doughnuts delivered to the winner who will be crowned during the United Synagogue’s Rabbi Steady Cook programme on 2 December on TheUS.tv.

Voting is open now via www.theus.org.uk/doughnuts. Votes will close on 1 December.

Richard Verber, communications director at the United Synagogue, said: “The judges found it incredibly hard to narrow them down and were so impressed that we have taken five ideas through to the public vote.

“We can’t wait to taste the winning entry!”
