Warning over the impact of far-right surge on minorities in Israel

The Abraham Initiatives, a non-profit organisation working for equal rights between Jews and Arabs in Israel, is warning about the prospects of the far-right Religious Zionism party being a part of the next Israeli government. 

“The ‘Jewish Power’ party promises to make clear to Israel’s Arab citizens who is the ‘master of the house’, a threatening and disturbing promise. It is our duty to remind everyone that in a democratic state, the ‘owner’ is the collective of all citizens, irrespective of religion or nationality, it said in a statement, referring to the Jewish Power party which is a part of Religious Zionism.

The UK branch of the organisation will be holding two events next week to “analyse the results of the election through the prism of shared society in Israel.”

Religious Zionism has sparked a big debate in Israel and abroad due to its anti-LGBTQ views and racist comments aimed at Arab-Israelis and Palestinians.

“The incoming governing coalition must act to institutionalize dialogue mechanisms aimed at problem-solving; to advance the development of Arab towns; to fight crime and violence and their root causes; to develop the mixed cities for the welfare of all residents; and to avoid breaking the status quo of the Al-Aqsa Mosque,” the Abraham Initiatives said.
