WATCH – One Direction Chanukah mash-up takes internet by storm

A Chanukah-themed medley of One Direction hits has gone viral – and is set to brutally expose the generation gap in homes across North London.

The mash-up was the brainchild of New York filmmaker Erez Cohen, and features several of the Big Apple’s Jewish a cappella groups singing specially adapted versions of the teen idols’ songs.

Spoof lyrics include “Yeah, eight night party for the Jews/Flipping latkes me and you/So tonight/Let’s play dreidel dreidel dreidel till we see the sun!” – sung to the tune of “Live While We’re Young” – while “Story of My Life” is parodied as “Story of My Life”.

Members of Cohen’s ensemble are decked out in an impressive array of seasonal knitwear – and one even does an acrobatic turn as a rollerblading dreidel.

The video, which has racked up an impressive 46,000 views on YouTube, is by no means the band’s first encounter with the Jewish community.

Ben Winston – son of Jewish scientist and broadcaster Lord Winston – produced the former X Factor contestants’ early videos and film This Is It, and in 2013 told the Jewish News that he had invited them round for Friday night dinner.

He said of Harry, Niall, Louis, Liam and now-departed Zayn, who shot the video for “Best Song Ever” in a Miami Shul: “All the boys love Judaism.

“Over the years they have become part of our family, and are interested in what we do.”

He also revealed tattooed heartthrob Harry had taken to wearing an unlikely accessory – a Magen David.
