Welcome to our shul! This week: Golders Green Synagogue

A view of the newly-refurbished Golders Green Synagogue

Synagogue: Golders Green Synagogue

Rabbi: Rabbi Dr Harvey and Rebbetzin Vicki Belovski; assistant Rabbi Sam and Rebbetzin Hadassah Fromson

When was it founded? 1915.

How large is your congregation? The synagogue has 600 adult members and about 200 children.

What does the shul offer young families?

We have recently taken on an assistant rabbinic couple, Rabbi Sam and Hadassah Fromson, whose special responsibility is youth and young families. As well as our popular children’s programmes on Shabbat and festivals, attended by between 40 and 50 children on a regular basis, we have events for youth, young professionals and young families ranging from a recent youth dinner with Tikkun Leil Shavuot to dessert and games in the park on Shabbat for young families.

Tell us an interesting fact about the synagogue that we may not know:

Golders Green Synagogue was the first major synagogue in the area and was one of the catalysts for the movement of the Jewish population to north-west London. We have recently refurbished the building, retaining the existing listed architectural features and developing a modern shul with a welcoming contemporary feel.

Tell us about upcoming events you have planned:

We have a range of events planned, from our annual baby blessing ceremony to a blood donation session (open to all), as part of our use of the shul premises for the benefit of the wider community.

What are the highlights of your Shabbat morning Kiddush?

The Kiddush is a lovely opportunity for members of the community to get together and mingle across the different age groups.
