A Jewish Argentinian has won ‘best director’ in the Latin equivalent of The Oscars, while his film, which features Jewish characters and a Jewish wedding, won ‘best film.’ Damian Szifrom took home the two gongs for ‘Wild Tales’ at the Platinum Awards held in the swanky Spanish resort of Marbella.

A commemoration has been held in Buenos Aires, six months after the death of a federal prosecutor who accused Argentine leaders of protecting terrorists who attacked the city’s Jewish centre in 1994. Jewish leaders led 5,000 people asking for justice, calling Alberto Nisman ‘the 85th victim.’

Recriminations were ongoing this week after Israeli fans of Beitar Jerusalem shamed their country with acts of hooliganism during an away match in Charleroi. The owner of Beitar said he would sell, and that he was ashamed, after the home team’s goalkeeper was hit by an object thrown from the crowd.

Five Jewish schools in France are celebrating a 100 percent pass rate in this year’s diploma exams. Schools from the ORT and Chabad-Lubavitch networks featured, as did Lycee Alliance, which topped the rankings. Four of the five schools were in the capital, while the other was in Toulouse.

Police in Moscow are being asked whether the non-fatal shooting of a prominent Jewish leader was a hate-crime. Sergey Ustinov, 62, who owns a real estate business, is in a critical condition. He founded the Museum of the History of Jews in Russia and sits on the board of the Russian Jewish Congress.

Teams excavating a mass grave of Holocaust victims in Lithuania have downed tools after the country’s chief rabbi asked ‘appropriate respect’ to the dead first be guaranteed. The grim discovery was made last week by construction workers building a new road in the northern city of Siauliai.
