Canada is to have another go at its new National Holocaust Memorial, after unveiling a plaque that did not mention Jews. The Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs said the omission was ‘conspicuous and curious’. The Shoah monument, the first in Canada’s history, was unveiled in Ottawa last month.

A ten-year old Jewish girl has been offered another school place after bullies beat her up for ‘being Jewish’. The girl was hospitalised with injuries to her ribs and abdomen. Her mother said she reported it to the BNVCA (National Bureau for Vigilance Against Anti-Semitism), who published it on 3 October.

A celebrated Jewish pianist collapsed died on stage last week, aged 72. Mikhail Klein was performing his own composition of famous Russian songs in his hometown of Irkutsk when he suffered cardiac arrest. In the audience were two of the city’s most prominent doctors, but their efforts to revive him failed.

Israeli Scouts classes in English have begun in New York, the first U.S. chapters. Financial backers at Areivim Philanthropic Group said: ‘People are looking for their kids to participate in something Jewish, but it has to be secular to attract the unaffiliated. We see Israel as part of the identity of those people.’
