World’s oldest Jew dies aged 114
The world’s oldest Jew passed away on Sunday aged 114, writes James Graham.
As a child Goldie Steinberg survived the infamous Kishinev pogrom in modern-day Moldova, in which 49 people were killed and 500 injured in just two days.
In 1923 she moved to the United States, where she worked as a seamstress until the age of 80.
Goldie, who passed away two months shy of her 115th birthday, is survived by her two children, four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Grandson Peter Kutner said: “She was an incredibly selfless person and always thought of others.”
