Yavneh College raises funds for earthquake victims
Jewish school in Borehamwood fundraises as part of widespread community efforts following the disaster in Turkey and Syria
Yavneh College has raised £570 to support humanitarian efforts in Turkey and Syria.
The school in Borehamwood launched an appeal following the catastrophic earthquake and powerful aftershocks on Monday.
In an email, the school thanked “the generosity of pupils, staff and parents” who have already donated and supported charity sales at its tuck shop. Following queries from parents, the school has also added an option on Parent Pay for further donations.
Yavneh will run a re-stocked tuck shop at lunch time Thursday and Friday week to raise additional funds.
The community has committed its international agencies to support humanitarian and disaster relief on the ground; international aid organisation World Jewish Relief (WJR) estimates that 23 million lives have been devastated across southern Turkey and northern Syria. It has launched an emergency fundraising appeal to support those effected, responding through a trusted local partner, helping to provide emergency shelter, blankets, heaters, clothes, food packages and first aid kits to the worst affected.
A team from Israel’s national medical emergency, disaster, ambulance and blood service, Magen David Adom (MDA) landed in Turkey on Tuesday as part of the official Israeli delegation.
