Yellow stars on show at Dutch protest against new coronavirus rules

Yellow stars were on display in the Netherlands over the weekend as hundreds of protesters marched against a new vaccine passport system.
Proof of COVID-19 vaccination – the “corona pass” – has become compulsory in the country to get into bars, restaurants, theatres and other venues.
Carrying banners and placards as techno music played over mobile loudspeakers, several hundred protesters opposed to the pass weaved their way through the streets of The Hague.
One banner featured the yellow star that Jews were forced to wear during the Nazi occupation of the Netherlands.
The slogan read: “Have they died for nothing?”
Protesters opposed to coronavirus restrictions have used yellow stars in several European countries in recent months, including the UK.
Most Dutch people support the corona pass, but one cabinet minister was sacked by Prime Minister Mark Rutte after publicly questioning the measure.
Rutte’s office said Deputy Economic Affairs Minister Mona Keijzer had been dismissed because her comments went against cabinet policy on an issue “of such importance and weight”.
