Young people lead way to raise nearly £6,000 for Jewish Women’s Aid

Three groups led by young people have raised nearly £6,000 for Jewish Women’s Aid in a series of sponsored walks and treks.

The first, a group of sixteen-year-olds, decided to create a group called ‘New Respective’ to raise money for JWA after hearing the charity talk in their school.

As well as interviewing charity workers for their podcast, they undertook a sponsored 12k walk across Hampstead Heath on 21 July, raising over £2,400.

Mum and daughter team, Nicole and Daisy Goodman, aged 44 and 13, took part in a 3-day trek up Hellvelyn in the Lake District, last week to raise money as part of Daisy’s Bar Mitzvah. 

Daisy said: “I wanted to raise money for Women’s Aid because my school did an assembly on the charity and I was very moved by the work they do.”

Meanwhile, twelve-year-old Charlotte Bloom took part in the same trekking challenge and raised £1,026 for the charity. 

Jewish Women’s Aid’s Julia Kay, said: “We’re so grateful to all the fundraisers involved for their amazing support and awareness raising over the last week, and we’re proud of all of them for completing their sponsored walks and treks. 

“It’s also brilliant to see this being driven by young people, who are becoming more aware of our work across the community, especially in schools.”
