Cameron-acclaimed head to take charge at King Solomon High School
A headteacher whose work was hailed by Prime Minister David Cameron in the House of Commons is taking charge of King Solomon High School, in Redbridge.
Matthew Slater has been appointed headteacher of the school in Forest Road, Barkingside, and is due to start work there after Pesach.
Mr Slater is a former head teacher at Drapers’ Academy in Havering, where he was praised by Mr Cameron for turning it into the “fastest improving school” in the country.
Mr Slater, 45, has more than 16 years of senior leadership experience. He will take over from Dr Paul Doherty, who has been the acting head teacher for the past year and who will return to his full time duties at Trinity Catholic High School.
Mr. Slater said: “King Solomon High School has the potential to become an outstanding educational institution and I will endeavour to make it the school the entire community wants – the governing body and I share a vision for the future success of the school.
“I have had the opportunity to work in a number of amazing schools and outstanding educators in my career, both within and outside the Jewish community. I see this role as the pinnacle of my educational career.”
Mr Slater has worked in outstanding schools including Bushy Mead and Hasmonean. He was also the first deputy head at Yavneh College.
Dr Richard Burack, and Stephanie Sollosi, co-chairmen of the school’s govering body, said: “Mr Slater comes with extensive experience of working in Jewish schools and in bringing about accelerated learning and achievement for students.
“He is extremely focussed on growing our school and its associated community and we look forward to working together in propelling King Solomon to new and far reaching heights.”
