Hendon arrest amid anti-Semitism allegations
A man was arrested over allegations of anti-Semitic abuse on the streets of Hendon on Sunday, writes Justin Cohen.
The 44-year-old was arrested on suspicion of a racially aggravated public order offence, police confirmed.
According to a tweet from Shomrim, the man was performing a Nazi salute while shouting ‘let’s kill the Jews’
The organisation’s Gary Ost said: “Our members followed him until the police arrived and arrested him outside the HSBC near Hendon Central tube.”
A Met spokesman said: “Police were called at approximately 13:50hrs on Sunday, 22 February to Central Circus, NW4 following reports of a man allegedly making anti-Semitic comments. Officers attended and a 44-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of a racially aggravated public order offence. He was taken to a north London police station and subsequently bailed pending further enquiries.”
The arrest was welcomed by the CST’s Mark Gardner, who said: “People need to know that this kind of racism will carry consequences.”
