Stop the War deleted controversial articles including one advocating war with Israel
Campaigners from Jeremy Corbyn’s Stop the War Coalition have been rumbled after quietly deleting controversial articles from the group’s website, including some advocating war against Israel.
Social media users pointed the finger after the organisation, which was chaired by the left-wing Labour leader until this year, was found to be removing several articles this weekend, after Corbyn spoke at the Christmas fundraiser on Friday.
One appeared to sympathise with jihadists while another, by former United Nations special investigator Richard Falk, was titled: ‘Time to go to war with Israel as the only path to peace in the Middle East.’
Falk, a Jewish professor of international law at Princeton University, is known for acting as the UN’s special rapporteur on Palestinian human rights. He was denied entry into Israel or the Palestinian territories.
Citing apartheid in South Africa as an example, Falk argued for “pressures exerted through the mobilisation of a movement from below, combining popular resistance with global solidarity” as the best way of realising Palestinian statehood.
Labour’s right-wing have attacked the anti-war group with increasing voracity in recent weeks, with MP Tristram Hunt recently calling it “disreputable,” while Shadow Culture Secretary Michael Dugher accused activists of “abusing” and “intimidating” Labour parliamentarians who voted to bomb Syria.
