10-year-old boy raises £1,500 by cutting his hair for charity
Rapha Gerrard had 60cm of his hair cut off in aid of the Little Princess Trust, which supports children with cancer
On Sunday Rapha Gerrard, 10, cut off 60cm of his hair to be used as a wig for a child with cancer.
Around three years ago, Rapha told family: “I don’t have my own money and I want to give to charity. Can I grow my hair and give that instead?”
After growing his hair, he finally cut it last week and donated the hair to The Little Princess Trust, which will make the wig and also raised more than £1,500 for the charity.
The youngster had originally hoped to cut his hair in January – but was stymied by the lockdown which meant barber shops could not be open.
Writing on his JustGiving page, Rapha said: “I have been growing my hair for a few years for the purpose of donating it to this charity. Please support me by supporting them with a donation via this page.
“There is some more information from the charity below. I wanted to do this in January but having difficulty due to lockdown.”
The Little Princess Trust gives children who have lost their hair a free, real hair wig to help restore their confidence and identity.
The charity, which relies on donations, also funds research into the treatment of cancer.
