4,000 pupils walk a mile on Yom Ha’atzmaut to raise cash for charity

4,000 pupils from nurseries and schools up and down the country walked a mile to raise funds for charity on Yom Ha’atzmaut.

The aim was to raise money for Ohel Sarah to purchase playground equipment and adapted bikes for children in Israel supported by the charity.

The theme of the event was “Walk To Israel”, which attempted to foster an interest in the country in young people.

“We wanted to encourage children from all over the country to do something together on Israel’s birthday,” said charity CEO Debby Cowen. “To feel excited about Israel and to learn something about Ohel Sarah.”

In total, 18 schools across Glasgow, Liverpool, Manchester, Birmingham and London, took part.

Among them were Hasmonean Boys School, Sacks Morasha Jewish Primary, Etz Chaim Primary, the Independent Jewish Day, Moriah Jewish Day School.

“It was a rousing experience to watch our children circuiting our school building, all in the name of Ohel Sarah,”said Sacks Morasha Jewish Primary School’s Deputy Head Justin Kett.
