Yachad’s youth wing launch ‘Kids Court in Conflict’ campaign
Yachad’s youth wing this week launched a ‘Kids Court in Conflict’ campaign, providing Palestinian minors arrested in the West Bank with legal representation, writes Matei Clej.
According to the ‘pro-Israel pro-peace’ group, every year up to 700 children are prosecuted in the military court system.
A 2013 survey states only five percent of 105 Palestinian juveniles processed by the system had access to a lawyer before their initial interrogation.
The organisation wants to raise £26,000 to fund a duty lawyer to represent young people in custody and raise awareness of the issue among UK Jews.
A spokesperson for Yachad Youth said: “Supporting people working to improve the situation for young people is the highest expression of our Jewish and Zionist values.”
