The grape is king at Anglo-Israel wine tasting event in London’s Pall Mall
VIPs clink glasses in glamourous surrounds as guests toast 75 years since the State of Israel was founded
Diplomats and dignitaries said ‘L’Chaim’ last week at an evening of Israeli wine tasting on Pall Mall as part of the celebrations for the State of Israel’s 75th birthday.
Israeli Ambassador Tzipi Hotovely and the UK’s Ambassador-Designate to Israel Simon Walters were among those attending the Anglo-Israel Association (AIA) event in the committee room of the Royal Automobile Club in London.
The wines came from regions including the Golan Heights, the Galilee, Mount Carmel, and the Judean Hills around Jerusalem, with wineries including Matar, Pelter, Razi’el, and Yatir.
AIA chief executive Josh London said the story of Israeli wine “in many ways, parallels the history of Israel itself – it is an amazing success story”.
Like Israel’s, the English wine industry also goes from strength to strength, and while growing conditions are worlds apart, London said “the determination, resilience, love of the land, and exceptional craftsmanship translates very well across both cultures”.
Other guests included Lord and Lady Palmer of Childs Hill, Baroness Nicholson of Winterbourne, MPs Andrew Gwynne, Tim Loughton, Damien Moore, Mark Pritchard, Nicola Richards, and Sharon Hodgson, and former MP Lord Ian Austin.
