American yeshiva founder is jailed for rape
Rabbi Daniel Greer, 79, was found guilty of sexually assaulting Eliyahu Mirlis, now 31, hundreds of times over a four year period
The founder of an Orthodox yeshiva in Connecticut, USA, and vocal opponent of gay rights has been jailed for 20 years for raping and molesting a young boy when he was a student there.
Rabbi Daniel Greer, 79, was found guilty of sexually assaulting Eliyahu Mirlis, now 31, hundreds of times from 2001 to 2005 and on Monday he was sentenced to two decades in prison, which he is set to appeal.
Greer, an activist who campaigned for Soviet refuseniks and who later founded the New Haven yeshiva, was ordered to be detained while his appeal proceeded, because he is considered a significant flight risk.
