Anti-Semitic incidents ‘lowest in a decade’
The number of anti-Semitic incidents recorded in the UK in the first half of 2013 has fallen to the lowest level in a decade, new figures have revealed.
The Community Security Trust (CST) logged 219 incident in the first six months of this year, the lowest number of incidents recorded in the first half of a year since 2003. Of the 219 incidents, 29 were classified as violent, which is the lowest number of assaults for over 12 years.
By contrast, the first half of 2012 saw 311 incidents, meaning this year’s figure show an annual drop of more than 30%
CST spokesman Mark Gardner said: “Any fall in the number of anti-Semitic incidents that take place is to be welcomed, but we are always wary of reading too much into short-term trends as we know that a lot of hate crime goes unreported.”
