Archbishop Of Canterbury condemns ‘utterly abhorrent’ attacks on Israel by Hamas
In a letter sent to Board of Deputies chief executive Michael Wegier, the Most Reverend Justin Welby also said he wished to express "sympathies and concerns for British Jews".
The Archbishop Of Canterbury has condemned the “utterly abhorrent” attacks on Israel by Hamas, adding he has been following developments with “intense horror.”
In a letter sent to Board of Deputies chief executive Michael Wegier, the Most Reverend Justin Welby also said he wished to express “sympathies and concerns for British Jews”.
He said the actions of Hamas, particularly the violence against “innocent civilians, children elderly”, appeared to strike “at all that is good and holy.”
The archbishop said he wished to convey his “deepest sense of solidarity” with the community here with “many grieving, fearing for the whereabouts of loved ones and feeling profound trauma.”
He said he wished also to “convey these sentiments to those in Israel” and offered to do “anything that may be helpful” in an “extraordinarily difficult time.”
