Archbishop of Canterbury honours British rabbi for interfaith work
The Archbishop of Canterbury has honoured a British-born rabbi for his interfaith work.
Former Ireland Chief Rabbi David Rosen, who is the international director of interreligious affairs at the American Jewish Committee and one of the world’s few Jewish Papal knights, was presented with the Hubert Walter Award for Reconciliation and Interfaith Cooperation during a ceremony at Lambeth Palace.
Archbishop Welby said: “It is a huge honour and joy to confer these awards upon such extraordinary people. The ceremony on is an opportunity for us to honour them and give thanks to God for their gifts, which have been such a blessing for t world.”
Rabbi Rosen said: “This is not only a great personal honour for me, but I believe it is the first time the Jewish community has ever been formally recognized by the Church for the Jewish contribution to the promotion of the welbeing of society at large. As such this award is a tribute to all those who have laboured over the years in the field of Jewish-Christian relations in particular and Inter-faith relations in general.”
Religions for Peace saluted their president on “this outstanding achievement and for his unwavering commitment to advance multi-religious cooperation for Peace”.
