Board of Deputies President meets Ukrainian Bishop to demonstrate support
The pair spoke at length about the challenges facing the Ukrainian community in the UK and future challenges with incoming Ukrainian refugees.
Board of Deputies President Marie van Der Zyl met with a local Ukrainian bishop this week to show the community’s solidarity with the people of Ukraine as Russian forces continue to pummel the country.
The meeting with Bishop Kenneth Nowakowski, bishop for Ukrainian, Belarusian and Slovak Eastern Catholics, was held at the Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral of the Holy Family.
After their conversation, van Der Zyl presented the bishop with a siddur as a spiritual symbol of friendship and solidarity.
A Board spokesman said the pair “spoke at length about the challenges facing the Ukrainian community in the UK and future challenges with incoming Ukrainian refugees.”
Van Der Zyl offered practical support from the Jewish community and said the Board will be working with other communal organisations to consider ways in which this can be organised.
