Board urges UK Jews to press government over climate change
Britain’s Jews have been urged to push for government action on climate change, ahead of a crucial international conference in Paris later this year.
World leaders will meet in the French capital in December to determine what – if any – collective action they will take, and speakers at the Board of Deputies’ Climate Change Forum were asked to contact their MPs about the matter between now and then.
Emeritus Rabbi of Finchley Reform Synagogue Rabbi Jeffrey Newman said: “We need to work together. When the Jewish community takes things seriously we have enormous agency. We have tremendous capacity.”
Other speakers included esteemed environmental campaigner Jonathan Porrit and the Rt. Reverend the Bishop of Salisbury. The event was chaired by Maureen Kendler, director of education at Tzedek.
