British diplomat snapped in ‘Free Palestine’ scarf
An Israeli news site has published a photograph of the UK Consul General to Jerusalem wearing a Palestinian keffiyeh scarf showing ‘Palestine’ superimposed over a map of Israel.
British diplomat Alastair McPhail was pictured wearing the accessory emblazoned with the words ‘Free Palestine’ in a design that appears to replace Israel with a Palestinian state.
The image was taken earlier this year during an official visit to a new Islamic Relief lab at Al-Azhar University, a project co-sponsored by the British government.
News of the photo brought reaction from the Israeli Embassy in the UK.
A spokesman blasted the charity’s alleged links to terrorism, saying: “Islamic Relief Worldwise funnels millions of dollars a year to Hamas institutions, helping to maintain Hamas’s global funding activity.”
