British Rabbi Jeremy Bruce has been appointed Executive Director of The Rabbi Sacks Legacy Trust in North America.

The former King Solomon High School deputy head has lived in the US since 2014, when he was made head of Hebrew High School of New England.

Most recently Bruce worked as the Principal of the Fuchs Mizrachi Stark High School in Cleveland, Ohio.

Launched following his death in November 2020, the Rabbi Sacks Legacy Trust was established to promote the thought and works of former Chief Rabbi Lord Jonathan Sacks.

Bruce, who will take up the position in July, said: “Rabbi Sacks was one of the most inspiring and seminal Jewish figures of the past century and deeply influenced my educational vision and philosophy.

“His teachings have inspired hundreds of thousands of people over the past 25 years. I am honoured to be working to build and further enrich his legacy in North America for future generations.”

Bruce’s new role was one of two appointments announced by the Trust this week.

In Israel, former Director of the Ministry of Diaspora Affairs, Dvir Kahane, will become Executive Director of the Israel branch, focusing on identifying ways to embed Rabbi Sacks’ ideas throughout Israeli society, on both a religious and political spectrum.

Dvir said: “Rabbi Sacks described the connection between Israel and the Jewish people as unbreakable, so it is right that the Rabbi Sacks Legacy Trust has a presence here.”

“We’ll spread his teachings in ways that are meaningful and relevant for Israelis, primarily focusing on the formal and informal education networks.”

In addition to the appointments to the professional team, several new trustees have joined the board of the Rabbi Sacks Legacy Trust.

They include St John’s Wood Synagogue’s Dayan Ivan Binstock, former Member of Knesset Michal Cotler-Wunsh, Israeli diplomat and international lawyer Daniel Taub and political columnist Lord (Daniel) Finkelstein.
