‘Broken moral compass’: UK born ex IDF spokesperson slams army Instagram post
Lt-Col Peter Lerner hit out at the social media post which made a joke about a destroyed Gaza building
The former foreign press spokesman of the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) Lt-Col Peter Lerner, has said the IDF is presently showing “a broken moral compass” for a social media post it put up on Instagram.
In the post, which is still live, the IDF shows two pictures: a building in Gaza, with the Hebrew word for “before”, and a pile of rubble and the destroyed building, with the Hebrew for “after” on the image.
Criticism of the tweet drew the sharp response from British-born Lt-Col Lerner, who is now director-general of the international division of the Histadrut, Israel’s labour federation.
He was IDF spokesman for several years at the conclusion of his 25-year army career, and now is often called upon as an international spokesman and consultant.
