Case dropped against high-profile convicted criminals
David Bright and Claire Silverstone were expected in court over reportedly breaching restraining orders in their convictions, before the Crown Prosecution Service dropped the case
Two once high-profile ex-prisoners were due in court on Friday — until a last minute decision by the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) to drop the cases against them.
David Bright and Claire Silverstone, who were imprisoned in 2016 for perverting the course of justice, were released respectively in 2017 and 2018. Ms Silverstone was also convicted of a bomb hoax against a synagogue.
On Friday, August 16, Westminster Magistrates Court had been due to hear cases against Bright and Silverstone for breaching restraining orders in their convictions, relating to harassment messages against Jason Werth.
But magistrates were told before proceedings commenced that the CPS had “discontinued” the cases. Mr Werth, who was in court, had not previously been informed of the decision.
