Charity marks ‘huge milestone’ as £10m worth of goods delivered to refugees
Borehamwood-based 'Goods for Good' celebrates helping needy people all over the world
A tiny Borehamwood-based charity set up by Jewish non-profit veterans three years ago was celebrating a “huge milestone” this week, with goods worth more than £10 million now having been delivered to one million refugees.
Goods for Good, the charity established by Rosalind Bluestone, send industry’s overstocked goods to vulnerable communities overseas, in countries such as Syria, Iraq, the Philippines, Sierra Leone, Zimbabwe, Uganda, Ukraine and Moldova.
The latest area to be supported is Kurdistan, a semi-autonomous region in the north of Iraq, which has taken a battering after assaults from Islamic State (ISIS) and then from the Iraqi army earlier this year.
The charity coordinates donations from 65 companies, including Harrods, Regatta, Somerbond, Nike, Next, Comfy Quilts, Steiner Outdoor and Safety First Aid Group, and has now sent almost 200 consignments to 12 countries.
Goods for Good, which works with Dutch-registered charity Humanitarian Resources International Foundation (HRIF) and a network of volunteers of all ages, faiths and backgrounds, this week thanked donors and volunteers for their “generous support”.
She said: “We’re so pleased to have reached this milestone, but there are many more people that urgently need our help. To think of mothers without blankets or nappies for their babies is unimaginable.”
