Chief Rabbi nominated for the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge
A London Orthodox Rabbi has taken up the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge and nominated Chief Rabbi Ephraim Mirvis to follow suit.
Rabbi Yitzchak Schochet of Mill Hill Synagogue rose to the chilly task after being nominated by a Jewish News reader in a letter to his weekly Ask the Rabbi problem page.
Rabbi Schochet endured not one but FOUR buckets of icy water over his head before passing the baton on to Jewish News Editor Richard Ferrer, President of the Board of Deputies Vivian Wineman, Zionist Federation Chairman Paul Charney and Chairman of the JLC Mick Davis.
The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge requires participants to film themselves dumping a bucket of iced water over their heads before nominating a friend to do the same, while donating to research into ALS (a form of motor neurone disease).
The trend has gone viral on social media and so far raised over £37.5million for ALS charities worldwide, with everyone from Justin Bieber to Alex Salmond taking part.
