Rabbi Rafi Goodwin and his wife Chaya have been endorsed by “an overwhelming majority” of Chigwell and Hainault United Synagogue members to become the congregation’s senior rabbinic couple.

The couple have been with Chigwell and Hainault for the last six years as community rabbi and Rebbetzin.

They will take up their new roles this summer after Rabbi Baruch Davis and his wife Nechama retire.

Synagogue chair, Lindsay Shure, said: “Rabbi and Rebbetzen Goodwin have endeared themselves to the community, working closely with Rabbi and Rebbetzen Davis. I’m absolutely delighted, for them and for us!

“I, together with Rabbi Davis, the honorary officers and the synagogue council would like to wish them both mazaltov on their appointment and look forward to many fruitful years together in the community.”

The outgoing senior rabbi, Baruch Davis, added: “We have really enjoyed [the Goodwins’] friendship and working closely with them since their arrival in 2016.

“We are also very happy that so many of our young families are so actively supportive. This decision, together with the shul redevelopment project portends a great future for Chigwell and Hainault.”
