Community urged to support fundraiser for Jewish veterans charity
AJEX will run a match-funding campaign this weekend aimed at supporting men and women who served in the armed forces
A charity supporting the community’s military veterans is to run a fundraising campaign this weekend, to “pass the baton” of remembrance for those who served.
The Association of Jewish ex-Servicemen and Women is looking to raise £150,000, with all donations being doubled through a generous match-funding initiative.
The fundraising campaign – built on the theme of “Our Duty is to Care” – includes an interview with columnist, leader writer for The Times and presenter on Times Radio, Hugo Rifkind.
AJEX, which is now known as the Jewish Military Association, supports Jewish personnel in the armed forces past and present – with more than 150,000 having served since the start of the 20th century.
National Chairman, Mike Bluestone says, “AJEX was founded almost 100 years ago in response to ignorance and hatred. We have an obligation to pass down the story of the many Jewish people who served and gave their lives for us.
“Our duty at AJEX is to care and we are immensely proud of our work in welfare, education, fighting antisemitism and Remembrance. People rely on our help and we are proud to be supporting them, educate others and do our duty. We can’t do all of this without the help from the community, so we hope many will join us this weekend in support.”
Donations to the campaign will go towards relieving the suffering of the veteran community and education.
