Corbyn-supporting candidate deselected over Israel-ISIS article
Jeremy Corbyn supporter Alison Gove-Humpries is deselected as a candidate after sharing a social media post about Israel being linked to ISIS
A Labour council candidate in Birmingham has been deselected after she shared a social media post headlined “Israel key link in exporting ISIS oil”.
Alison Gove-Humphries, a Jeremy Corbyn supporter standing for election in Hall Green, also shared posts suggesting Israel was behind last year’s media storm focusing on anti-Semitism in the Labour Party.
The controversial posts were published on political blog Guido Fawkes only four days after her selection to fight the Hall Green by-election, and are understood to have since been removed from her Facebook page.
She was removed from a list of approved candidates by the Birmingham Board of the Labour Party on Friday, the Birmingham Post reported.
Labour Councillor Barry Henley, representing Brandwood, told local media last week: “These are clearly anti-Semitic postings. In my view there should be a Labour Party investigation into Ms Gove-Humphries membership and suitability to be a candidate and in the meantime a new candidate should be put in place.”
A regional Labour Party spokesperson said: “Alison Gove-Humphries has been removed from the panel of approved local government candidates.”
Two Birmingham councillors have already been disciplined for anti-Israeli comments or social media posts.
