Derek Hatton suspended from Labour, two days after being let back in
The militant ringleader was only readmitted on Monday, 34 years after his expulsion by Neil Kinnock.
Derek Hatton has been suspended from the Labour Party just two days after he was allowed back in.
The former deputy leader of Liverpool City was readmitted on Monday 34 years after he was expelled by Neil Kinnock for his membership to the far-left group Militant.
But he has been suspended following an investigation into an allegedly antisemitic tweet he posted in 2012, as first reported by the Liverpool Echo.
A Labour Party source said: “Derek Hatton was given provisional membership, pending NEC approval. The Party was not aware of this material.
“Once this was brought to our attention he was suspended pending the NEC’s decision.”
