Desmond to step down as Norwood president
Media mogul Richard Desmond is to step down as president of families and disability charity Norwood, writes Justin Cohen.
The charity’s services have expanded to include HOPE and Drugsline during his eight years at the helm.
Desmond – who will leave the post in March – has played a frontline role in fundraising efforts and engaged a host of celebrities and politicians with the organisation, which now supports 7,000 people annually.
He said: “My connection with Norwood dates back to my youth and I’ve been particularly honoured to serve the charity as its President since 2006.
“I’ve seen first-hand how Norwood transforms people’s lives, young and old, and how its efforts can truly capture the imagination. I wish all the hard-working staff and trustees the very best for the future and have no doubt I’ll continue to stay connected.”
David Ereira, Chairman of Norwood, commented: “Norwood’s growth and development over the last decade owes a great deal to Richard. Our trustees, staff and service users are extremely grateful for his many years of tireless efforts on their behalf, and we look forward to him continuing as a well-loved friend of Norwood for many years to come.”
